Bokaro ( Jharkhand) : Keeping in mind the coming of winter vacation, Christmas and New Year, a season for ‘picnics and parties’ and ‘drunken driving’ after parties, Bokaro district administration has initiated several measures for road safety including erecting temporaray check posts and deployment of cops at all busy points to check ‘drunken driving’.
Bokaro SP Y S. Ramesh, at a meeting held on NOvember 23, 2017, asked the Officer Incharges of all the 32 police station in the district to carry out regular checking to stop the drunken driving menace which has caused more than 153 deaths in the district since January 1 till October 31, 2017.
Meanwhile, the Bokaro district administration has started accepting Online applications for driving licenses again which had hit hurdles due to technical snags in computers installed at the District Trasport Office. One can apply Online to get a driving license without visiting Bokaro District Transport Office.
According to Bokaro District Transport Office press commuique, one has to apply for license on www.parivahan.gov.in where one can upload all his details along with documents mandatory for getting license and if everything is found satisfactory, he /she receives message on his given mobile to give his biometric details at DTO office. One can show this message to DTO office where his photo, thumb impression and digital signature is taken and soon after depositing the required fee, a learning driving license is immediately issued.
After 30 days of getting learning license, process of permanent driving license automatically starts, after which the applicant will receive message to come for driving trial run along with date and time and if found satisfactory, permanent license will be issued, informed District Transport Officer (DTO) Santosh Kumar Garg adding that this will not only save time but will also check corruption.
Bokaro Deputy Commissioner R M Ray stated that this On Line process will definitely check corruption besides saving time and money of common masses. While the Online process for granting driving license has started, a trial run is going in Bokaro where traffic cops are seen educating masses driving two- wheelers and even pillion riders to make sure that from next week every pillion riders wear helmets which has been made mandatory.
Bokaro SP Y S Ramesh informed that from November 26 no pillion rider on two wheelers including women will be allowed to move without wearing helmets for which massive drive will be started at all major crossings and roads which will check road accidents. “ I have already given direction to traffic cops to penalize all two- wheeler drivers found flouting traffic rules including those two wheelers with stickers of Police or Press written in bold letters. Rules must be followed by all,” stated the SP.
As per traffic DSP, at present a fine of Rs 500 fine is slapped on those found moving without wearing helmets and the same rule will apply on pillion riders also. Bokaro DTO S K Garg said that his officers will start a big drive to catch all commercial vehicles plying on roads without proper documents including vehicles which are more than two decade old as commercial vehicle more than 15 year old are not allowed to ply on road. “All commercial vehicles must keep all the required documents,” advised the DTO.
