Patna : The President of India Ram Nath Kovind addressed the 8th convocation of NIT Patna, Bihar, on November 15, 2018. Speaking on the occasion, the President said the research at NIT Patna should aim at resolving various problems of the people of Bihar and the country. He urged the NIT graduates to partner agricultural scientists and collaborate with farmers to help enhance their productivity and income.
President Kovind said that he was very happy to visit Bihar where he served as the Governor and knows the state throws up talented persons in very large number. He referred to Aryabhatt and Chanakya in this context. The President said that NITP is a technical institution of national repute and he is extremely happy to know that the students being awarded degrees on November 15 represent 18 states. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is also a former student of this institution, he said. Former Director, Atomic Energy Department, Ratna Kumar Sinha, and Padma Shri Dr Manas Bihari Verma had also studied here, the President said.
The President was, however, concerned over the low number of girl students graduating from different technical institutions across the country. ” Out of 733 NITP students getting degrees today, only 96 are girls that is just 13%. This situation must be improved ,” he said. The President expressed hope that under the young technology leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs the state would develop modern infrastructure and achieve success in the field of Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) and added that India is fast moving towards becoming the world’s fifth largest economy, according to a PIB release.
