New Delhi : The President of India Ram Nath Kovind, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has accepted the resignation of M J Akbar from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution, according to a PIB release on October 17, 2018. Akbar was minister of state for external affairs.

Akbar resigned from his post in the wake of several allegations f sexual harassment during his career as an Editor of a newspaper. He resigned ahead of the first court hearing in a defamation case by him against a journalist in this connection. Fifteen former female colleagues of Akbar have also levelled similar allegations against Akbar.
