Patna : Bihar School Examination Board ( BSEB) on June 22, 2017, declared the results of Class X examinations 2017 held in March. Prem Kumar of Sri Govind High School, Mano, Lakhisarai, has topped the examination securing 465 marks ( 93%) out of 500. Bhavya Kumari of Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya, Jamui, has bagged second position securing 464 marks out of 500. Harshita Kumari of Simultala Awsiya Vidyalaya secured third position getting 463 marks out of 500. Maximum students in top 10 are from Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya, Jamui.

Altogether 17, 23, 911 students had appeared at the examination of which 8,63,950 ( 50.12 %) students cleared the exam with 2, 39, 875 (13.91 %) examinees securing first division and 4,63,443 ( 26.88 %) getting second division while 1,60,632 ( 9.32 %) passed in third division. The topper will get Rs 1 lakh as scholarship and a laptop. The second topper will get Rs 50,000 and a laptop while third rank holders will get Rs 15,000 and a laptop.

Prem Kumar, son of a hotel owner in Lakhisarai, said teachers and parents guided him well in studies. He wants to become an IAS officer. Bhavya Kumari too said that she wants to crack UPSC Civil Services exam.

BSEB Chairman Anand Kishore said that due to grace marks the overall result of this year is better. In 2016, the pass percentage was 46.6%. There is over 3% increase in the pass percentage this year, he said. Bar-coding in answer- sheets helped keep the identity of candidates concealed. Candidates, who could not reach the board office during physical verification because of being in other state, the BSEB gave them the expense of coming to Patna by flight, he said.
