Ara : A  pregnant woman Manisha Devi was beaten up and also thrown out of her house allegedly by her in-laws at Teachers’ Colony under Bihia police station in Bhojpur district on May 3, 2018, just for Rs 20,000 as dowry. When her brother and mother tried to rescue her, they were also thrashed. All the three were admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital. No FIR has been lodged so far in this connection.

Manisha Devi of Ahirpurva locality under Ara Town police station said at Ara Sadar Hospital that she was married to Sonu Kumar, a goldsmith, of Teachers’ Colony under Bihia police station in Bhojpur district in 2017. Her husband tortured and thrashed her merely for Rs 20,000 as dowry allegedly at the behest of his mother ever since she became pregnant seven months ago.

On May 3, Sonu Kumar once again thrashed her in front of her mother and brother asking her to abort if she could not bring the amount. Sonu also pushed her out of the house. He also beat her mother and brother when they came to her rescue. Manisha said that she would register an FIR against her husband and mother-in-law after she recovers from her injuries.
