Patna : World No 26 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar better known as H S Prannoy, 26,  India, advanced to the quarter-finals of Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open defeating World No 13 and 2nd seed Tommy Sugiarto, 30, Indonesia, in straight games in the second round on May 2, 2019, at Eventfinda Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand.

Prannoy beat Sugiarto 21-14, 21-12 in 37 minutes in the second round. Prannoy won 42 rallies in the match to 26 by Sugiarto. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Sugiarto. Prannow now leads Sugiarto 3-0 head to head.

But, World No 20 B Sai Praneeth, 26, India, lost to World No 12 and two-time former Olympic Champion Lin Dan, 35, China, in the second round of Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open at Eventfinda Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand, to exit the tournament on May 2, 2019.

Lin Dan, the 7th seed and five-time former World Champion, beat Praneeth 21-12, 21-12 in 37 minutes in the 2nd round to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 category event. Dan won 42 rallies in the match to 24 by Praneeth. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Praneeth. Dan now leads Praneeth 2-0 head to head.
