Prajnesh enters 2nd round of Tata Open Maharashtra

Patna : World No 122 Prajnesh Gunneswaran, 30, India, beat Yannick Maden, 30, German, in straight sets on February 4, 2020, to enter the second round of Tata pen Maharashtra at Pune, India, an ATP 250 event. Gunneswaran beat Yannick Maden 7-6 (7-4), 7-6(7-5) in a tough contest both of which went to the tie-break.

Gunneswaran fired 8 Aces in the match to 4 by the German. Both the players won 1 break point each in the match. Gunneswaran’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (82% & 75%) was better than that of Maden (73% & 69%). The German committed 3 double faults to 2 by Gunneswaran.Both the players won 2 games each in a row in the match. But, the Indian won 55 service points to 53 by the GErman.

Earlier, Arjun Kadhe, 26,  India, who is ranked below 500 in ATP rankings, lost to Jiri Veseky 26, Czech Republic, 2-6, 4-6 in first round. Vesely fired 13 Aces in the match to 3 by Kadhe. Both the players committed 2 double faults each in the match. Vesely won 3 break points in the match to none by Kadhe. The Czech also won 3 games in a row. Vesely will face 7th seed Salvatore Caruso, Italy, in 2nd round on February 5, 2020.

World No 90 Egor Gerasimov, 27, Belarus, beat Paulo Lorenzi, 38, Italy, 6-2, 6-3 to enter the 2nd round of the tournament. Gerasimov fired 9 Aces in the match to 4 by the Italian. Both the players committed 3 double faults each in the match. Gerasimov, the 8th seed, won 4 break points in the match to 1 by the Italian. He also won 7 games in a row to 2 by the Italian. Lorenzi had reached 4th round of US Open in 2017.

Gerasimov will face Qualifier Nikola Milojevic, 24, Serbia,  in second round on February 5. Milojevic beat Antoine Hoang, 24, France, 7-6, 6-4 in first round.
