Ara : Police, during vehicle checking drive, arrested two persons and seized Rs 20 lakh cash from the car they were travelling by near Charpokhari Check-Post on Ara-Sasaram main road in Bhojpur District in South Bihar on October 9, 2020, late evening.
The arrested persons were identified as Sunny Kumar Gupta and Rajan Kumar of Gopali Chowk under Ara Town police station in Bhojpur District. Police are interrogating them to know from where the cash came and whether it was to be used in the ensuing assembly elections to woo voters. Police sources said that the seized amount belonged to a sand company. Police informed the Income Tax Department and the Committee formed at district level for the purpose about the recovery of cash from a car.
Police said that two persons : Sunny Kumar Gupta and Rajan Kumar, were going on a Wagon R towards Rohtas from Koelwar with bundles of notes in bags around 8pm on October 9, 2020. When they were trying to cross the Charpokhari Check-Post, police stopped the car and when it was searched, about Rs 20 lakh packed in a bag was seized. Police also arrested both the persons, who said that Dhotis were packed in the bags. But, when the bag was opened Rs 20 lakh found in it.
