Ara : Police and Sand Mafia exchanged fire at Shivpur ghat under Bahoranpur Police Outpost in Bhojpur district on August 29, 2018, though no casualty is reported in the firing. At least 100 rounds of bullets were fired from both the sides.

ASP cum SDPO, Jagdishpur, Manjeet Shyoran, said that he got information that some aides of former Mukhia, Suremanpur panchayat in Bhojpur district were smuggling sands from rivers Sone and Ganga on boats illegally from Bhojpur to Uttar Pradesh (UP). He immediately swung into action and along with police force reached the spot and conducted raid at the house of the former mukhia. Seeing police, the sand mafias started firing on police with  sophisticated arms. Police also to gave a befitting reply to them.

The ASP said that the sand mafias was smuggling 80 boats of sand of both the rivers to UP daily and added that the sand of river Sone costs Rs 1,000 per boat whereas that of river Ganga costs Rs 500 per boat. The sand of river Ganga is also sent to the brick kilns in Bhojpur and Rohtas districts. He said that raids were on and added that police were  looking for the former mukhia.
