Motihari :  East Champaran Police on March 17, 2020, arrested three members of  an inter- state gang involved  in cloning of Bank Credit Cards and Debit Cards and drawing cash from the ATMs from the cardholders’ bank accounts. They were arrested from No 1 India  ATM  at Matiariya village under Harsiddhi  police station in East Champaran District in North Bihar. This is the first  case  of its kind in this district.

SDPO, Areraj, Jyoti Prakash, said that the arrested miscreants were identified as  Kundan Kumar of Chakiya , Ashok Kumar of Pakaridayal, both in East Champaran, and Amit Kumar of Kanti in Muzaffarpur  district. During interrogation , they admitted having  made duplicate Credit Cards and Debit Cards by obtaining  personal details of their owners by installing ‘Magnetic card readers’ in ATM  machines concerned at Areraj and Darbhanga in Bihar and in Uttarpradesh.

Police  have recovered a small electric machine, Magnetic card readers, and three cellphones from their possessions and seized an SUV with stickers of  General Secretary of Yuwa JD(U)  and a Human Rights organisation allegedly pasted over it. The three criminals had reached Matiariya on this SUV. The SDPO said the arrested  persons were booked  under relevant  sections of I T Act  and ICP were sent to jail. Three more persons would be arrested in this  cyber  fraud case soon, the SDPO added.

According to police, six  persons reached  near the  ATM  Kiosk at Matiariya by the SUV in the  noon and three of them entered the ATM Kiosk. They were going and  coming out of the kiosk. Some villagers suspected  their activities informed police. The villagers caught three persons and handed them over to harsiddhi police police but the rest three persons fled away.
