Patna: With the arrest of three persons, Patna Police on December 21 claimed to have busted a gang of cellphone thieves operating in and around Patna. Police seized 32 cellphones, four chargers, two power banks, one router besides a Jio connector from the possession of the arrested criminals, said Patna Senior SP (SSP) Manu Maharaaj here on December 21.

Police said that unidentified criminals had broke open the shutter of a cellphone shop Communications and stole costly cellphones and chargers from there on December 9 night. An FIR was lodged with the Khajekalan police station in this connection.

Taking serious note of the incident, Patna SSP directed the SHO concerned to arrest those involved in the theft and recovery of the stolen items. Though the local police were carrying out raids to arrest the criminals, SSP received inputs that some anti-socials have assembled at Ashokchak Lane and directed the SHO concerned to rush there.

A police team led by Khajekalan ps SHO Rakesh Kumar Bhaskar reached the spot. Seeing the police team, some people started running away from there. However, the cops chased the criminals and arrested three of them.

Police said that during interrogation, the arrested persons admitted their involvement in theft of cellphone and other items from the shop on December 9 night. They also told the police where they have concealed the stolen materials. Later, a police team found 32 cellphones, two power banks, four cellphone chargers, one router and one  Jio connector from the place disclosed by the arrested persons.

Police said that the criminals also told the police that they used to travel on bike during night and during school time and used to rob those coming out. The criminals also targeted passengers boarding and coming out of trains and used to lure them at lonely places and rob them of their valuables, police said adding that the criminals also threatened their prey to eliminate them if they resisted the loot bid.

Police said that the arrested criminals were identified as Rohit Kumar, a resident of Sonar Toli under Khajekalan ps, Raushan Kumar alias Gunga, a resident of Chowk ps, and Buletan, a resident of Sonar Toli under Khajekalan ps.
