Ara : Police arrested three persons for allegedly firing on police force Mahuli Ghat and sent them to jail after lodging a named FIR with Koelwar police station in Bhojpur District in South Bihar against them and 25 unknown persons on August 4, 2020, late evening.
The arrested persons were identified as Munna Rai, son of Dudhnath Rai of Manachak; Videshi Rai and his brother Akhilesh Rai, sons of late Ram Pujan Rai of Mahadevchak under Koelwar police station in Bhojpur district.
Bhojpur SP Sushil Kumar said that he got information about exchange of fire between two groups led by Munna Rai and Videshi Rai at Mahuli Ghat for illegal digging of sand and realisation of extortion amount from boatmen on August 4, 2020, evening. He immediately directed the SHOs Koelwar and Barhara police stations to reach the spot go and bring the situation under control. On his direction, both the SHOs along with police force went Mahuli Ghat and found both the groups exchanging fire. Police tried to prevent them but members of both the groups fired on police force instead forcing them to retaliate in self-defence.
Seeing that the police had overpowered them, members of the rival groups tried to escape from the scene throwing their firearms into river Sone but the police chased and arrested three persons: Munna Rai, Videshi Rai and his brother Akhilesh Rai. The SP said that the three persons arrested from Mahuli ghat had long criminal history and at least nine criminal cases are pending against them with Koelwar police station.
The SP stated that police also arrested Satyendra Kumar Pandey of Pachrukhia Kala village under Koelwar police station in connection with firing on a Mukhia and demanding rangdari from him.
