Bettiah : With the  arrest of Deena Nath on September 17, 2019, in connection with gang rape case  of a former inmate of Muzaffarpur Shelter Home, West Champaran police have arrested 4 accused in the case. They are being quizzed  by SP, West Champaran, Jayant Kant. NHRC has served notices on Bihar Chief Secretary and DGP in connection with gang rape of the girl.

Police had arrested Akash, Sajan, and Kundan in the case on September 16, 2019, and are looking for the driver of the SUV  who had also raped the girl which came to light after a video was made viral on social media by one of the accused  on September 16, police said. The driver is evading arrest.

This girl was reunited with her family in May, 2018, at Bettiah, headquarters of West Champaran District,  and according to Mamata Jha, Assistant Director of Bettiah Child Protection Unit, the girl has been living with her family since then .On September 13, 2019, night, the  girl was going to the home of her sister- in-law walking in Bettiah town on foot. But, she was dragged by 4 persons into an SUV who gangraped her  and then dropped her near her house .

On September 14, 2019, the survivor lodged an FIR with Town police station against Akash Kumar, Raj Kumar, Kundan Kumar, and Deena Nath Kumar, of Ilam Ram Chowk localitry. She was admitted in MJK Hospital, Bettiah, for treatment and medical examination by police, said SHO, Town Police Station, Shashi Bhushan Thakur.  Her FIR was  forwarded to Women’s Police Station, Bettiah, for action. Poonam Kumari , SHO, Women’s police station, said  investigation into the incident was on.
