New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of India on May 24, 2019, and tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers. The President has accepted the resignation and requested Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government assumes office.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on May 24 gave its approval to the Resolution advising the President of India to dissolve the Sixteenth Lok Sabha, which was constituted on May 18, 2014. The first meeting of the Sixteenth Lok Sabha was held on June 4, 2014, when members were administered oath and affirmation.  The life of the present Lok Sabha is, therefore, to expire on June 3, 2019, unless the President dissolves it earlier, according to a PIB release.
