New Delhi : PM Narendra Modi on November 5, 2017, congratulated the Indian Women’s Hockey team on winning Asia Cup 2017. “Congratulations to our hockey team on winning the Women’s Asia Cup 2017. India is delighted by their stellar performance,”the Prime Minister said, according to a PIB release.

The Indian Women’s Hockey team defeated China 5-4 in a shootout in the final on November 5 in Japan to lift the Asia Cup. With this, the Indian Women’s Hockey team has qualified for the Hockey World Cup next year. India had failed to qualify for the last World Cup. The Indian Women’s Hockey team had last won the Asia Cup in 2004 by defeating Japan in the final. The Men’s Hockey team had also won Asia Cup this year.
