New Delhi : PM Narendra Modi on September 29, 2017, extended his condolences over loss of human lives in stampede at Elphinstone Road railways station foot overbridge (FOB), Mumbai. The Prime Minister, according to aPIB relase said, “My deepest condolences to all those who have lost their lives due to the stampede in Mumbai. Prayers with those who are injured. Situation in Mumbai is being continuously monmonitored. Rail Minister Piyush Goyal is in Mumbai taking stock of the situation & ensuring all assistance.”

According to reports, 22 persons were killed and over 30 seriously injured in the stampede in the rush hour on September 29 around 10.30 am. The FOB links Elphinstone and Parel stations. The FOB was overcrowded and due to heavy rain it had become slippery.
