Patna : World No 13 & 8th seed Karolina Pliskova, 29, Czech Republic, beat 2nd seed Aryna Sablenka, 23, Belarus, in a three-set thriller in second semi-final on Centre Court, All England Cluv, London, UK,  on July 8, 2021, to reach women’s singles final at Wimbledon Championships for the first time. Pliskova will face World No 1 Ashleigh Barty, 25 Australia, in final. Barty also reached her first Wimbledon final on the day.

Pliskova, the winner of 16 career titles, beat World No 4 Sabalenka 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in semi-final coming from behind. Sabalenka hammered 18 Aces during the match to 14 by Pliskova, who had reached US Open final in 2016. Pliskova, however, won 96 points during the match to 87 by the Belarusian. Both the players committed 4 double faults each. The Czech won 2 break points during the match to 1 by Sabalenka. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Sabalenka had won two previous matches between the two playesr.
