Pliskova, Barty enter 3rd round of Italian Open, World No 10 Sabalenka upset

Patna : World No 7 in WTA rankings Karolina Pliskova, 27, Czech Republic, and World No 9 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, entered the 3rd round of Italian Open on May 14, 2019, winning their respective 2nd round matches at Foro Italico, Rome, Italy. But, World No 53 Alize Cornet, 29 France, upset World No 10 Aryna Sabalenka, 21, Belarus, in the first round.

Pliskova defeated World No 47 Ajla Tomljanovic, 26, Australia,  in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the second round. Pliskova broke Ajla’s servive 4 times in the match while the latter broke her service only once. Pliskova won 5 games in a row to 3 by Ajla. Pliskova firec 5 Aces in the match to 4 by Ajla.

Barty beat World No 43 Viktoria Kuzmova, 21, Slovak Republic,  4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. Barty hammered 10 Aces in the match to 3 by Kuzmova. Barty won 6 break points to 5 by Kuzmova. Barty won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by Kuzmova.

Cornet beat Sabalenka 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. Cornet won 5 break points to 2 by Sabalenka. Cornet also won 6 games in arrow in the match to 2 by Sabalenka.
