Sitamarhi : Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on April 24, 2018, said that a post IG (Prohibition) has been created recently to monitor liquor smuggling and activities of bootleggers. His phone number will be readily available on electric poles. The identity of informer will be kept a secret.
Nitish also exhorted the people not to take dowry and discard child marriage. “Please do not participate in those marriages. Eliminate the social evils. Empower girls and women taking cue from Goddess Sita,” he said describing Goddess Janaki as the embodiment of women empowerment. Her sacrifices would be remembered for generations to come, the CM said.

“Janaki came out of the earth to teach lessons to the demons and unruly personalities of the the world. We still remember her relevance and teachings today. Sitamarhi is the pious land of Janaki ji,” said Nitish highlighting the role of goddess Sita during Ramayana age. ” She ws powerful enough to eliminate the evil forces herself but she wanted Maryada Purushottam Sri Ram to become a crusader,” the CM said. He highlighted financial assistance to girl child being provided by the state government including under uniform ( posak) and bicycle schemes.
Nitish said that when he became the chief minister in 2005, the condition of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) was deplorable. Our government made efforts and their condition improved considerably  and free medicine are also now available at hospitals.
The CM inaugurated Sitamarhi Mahotsav-cum-Janaki Nawami Mahotsav at Punauradham on April 24, 2018. He visited both the temples of Goddess Janaki and offered prayers. He also took part in the ‘Aarti’ of Urvija pond along with a few of his cabinet colleagues including Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi besides Jagatguru Rambhadracharyaji Maharaj.
He laid foundation of several schemes of temple renovation, construction of administrative building, light-sound system, construction of compound walls and gates. The entire project will cost around Rs 48.53 crore.
