People of UTs of J&K and Ladakh can now Realise Full Potential of Economy& Businesses : Reddy

New Delhi : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, in written reply to a question regarding the economic situation in Kashmir Valley in Lok Sabha on December 3, 2019, said that people and business community of UT of J&K and Ladakh can now realise full potential in all sectors of economy and businesses like in other parts of the country after the Declaration issued by the President under article 370.

He said that full potential and economy in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions could not be realised for the last 70 years as the people of Jammu and Kashmir suffered from terrorist violence and separatism supported from across the border for the past many decades.

The Minister added that under the Rs 80,068 crore Prime Minister’s package announced on November 7, 2015, 63 major development projects in Road, Power, Health, Tourism, Agriculture, Horticulture and Skill Development sectors are already under various stages of implementation and that in addition to the above, many flagship schemes of the Government of India including the individual beneficiary centric schemes are being proactively implemented by the Government.

The Ministeradded that on account of article 35A and certain other constitutional ambiguities, the people of this region were denied full rights enshrined in the Constitution of India and other benefits of various Central Laws that were being enjoyed by other citizens of the country.

The Minister further added that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had extended the due-date of filing of returns of income tax in respect of all categories of Income Tax assessee in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh till November 30, 2019, according to a PIB release.
