Patna : World No 28 Guido Pella, 28, Argentina, upset World No 13 Karen Khachanov, 22, Russia, in the 2nd round of ATP Barcelona Open at Barcelona, Spain, on April 24, 2019, night. Pella, who had given a tough time to World No 2 Rafael Nadal in the QFs of ATP Monte-Carlo Masters, Monaco, last week, beat Khachanov in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 to advance to the 3rd round of the tournament.

Prella broke Khachanov’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke his service thrice. Pella also won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by Khachanov. Khachanow though fired 5 Aces in the match to just 1 by Pella. Both the players committed 3 double fault each. Pell won 45 service points to 38 by Khachanov, who had stunned World No 1 Novak Djokovic, Serbia, in the final of ATP Paris Masters in November 2018.

World No 155  David Ferrer, 37, Spain, also advanced to the 3rd round of the tournament beating World No 32 Lucas Pouille, 25, France, 6-3, 6-1 in the 2nd round on April 24, 2019. Ferrer, a former Top 10 player, broke Pouille’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke his service only once. Ferrer also won 6 games in a row in the match. Ferrer’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve was much better than that of Pouille.
