Patna: With the arrest of 11 persons including a man posing as district transport officer (DTO), Patna Police claimed to have busted a gang involved in checking and issuing fake documents to four-wheelers across the district. Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj told a group of journalists here that the members of the gang had hired several persons having criminal antecedents and they were paid for their services. He said that the gang was operating for the past three years. The property that these gang members have amassed would be probed, he added.
Police sources said that the gang members used to provide fake pollution under control certificates and checked the documents of the vehicles on different NHs at secluded places. The gang members used to charge Rs 500 from the vehicle owners for providing certificates. Several documents have been recovered from their possession, sources said. Police said that one of the arrested gang member Lala has also operated in Jharkhand.
Elevan arrested with arms and looted gold jewellery: In another incident, Patna Police arrested 11 criminals and recovered arms and looted gold ornaments from their possession. Patna SSP Manu Maharaj said that the arrested persons had admitted their involvement in at least 35 cases of theft. He said that a police team was sent to Bakerganj under Gandhi Maidan police station where the arrested criminals have sold gold ornaments.
In yet another incident, a Patna Police team carried out raids in riverine belt of Bihta and Maner in Patna district to check illegal mining of sand there late on Saturday evening. The members of Fauji Singh gang are allegedly engaged in carrying out illegal mining of sand.
