Patna : Pakistan were all out for 297 in 83,5 overs close to stumps in their first innings in 2nd test against New Zealand (NZ) at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on Day 1 on January 3, 2021, with Azhar Ali scoring 93 in 172 balls with 12 fours and captain Mohd Rizwan (wk) scoring 61 in 71 balls with 11 fours. NZ fast medium bowler Kyle Jamieson took 5/69 in 21 overs while Trent Boult and Tim Southee took two wickets each. NZ had won the toss but opted to bowl. NZ lead the two-match test series 1-0.

Batting first, Pakistan lost their first wicket that of opener Shan Masood with only 4 runs on board. Shan Masood fell to Tim Southee for zero. Openr Abid Ali and Azhar Ali then added 62 runs for the 2nd wicket. Abid Ali fell to Kyle Jamieson for 25 making it 66/2. Haris Sohail also fell to Jamieson for 1 and it was 70/3. Fawad Alam too fell to Jamieson for 2 making it 83/4.

Azhar Ali and Mohd Rizwan then added 88 runs for the 5th wicket. Rizwan fell to Jamieson for 61 and it was 171/5. Rizwan scored at a brisk pace. Azhar Ali fell to fast medium bowler Matt Henry for 93 and it was 227/6.Medium fast bowler  Faheem Ashraf, a bowling all-rounder, fell to Jamieson for 48 in 88 balls with 8 fours and it was 260/7. Spinner Zafar Gohar fell to Southee for 34 in 62 balls with 6 fours making it 288/8. Shaheen Afridi fell to Trent Boult for 4 and it was 285/9. Fast bowler Naseem Shah fell to Boult for 12 with 3 fours and Pakistan were all out for 297.
