Patna : Replying to New Zealand (NZ)’s first innings total of 431, Pakistan scored 239 in their first innings on Day 3 in the 1st test at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, NZ, on December 28, 2020,  powered by medium fast bowler Faheem Ashraf’s 91 in 134 balls with 15 fours and 1 six. Pakistan captain Mohd Rizwan (wk) scored 71 in 142 balls with 8 fours. At one stage, Pakistan were 80/6 in 59.1 overs. NZ lead by 192 runs on first innings.

Resuming at their overnight score of 30/1, Pakistan lost their 2nd wicket that of opener Abid Ali at 39. Abid fell to fast medium bowler Kyle Jamieson for 25. Mohd Abbas fell to Trent Boult for 5 making it 43/3. Azhar Ali fell to medium fast bowler Tim Southee for 5 and it was 51/4. Haris Sohail also fell to Sothee for 3 making it 52/5. Fawad Alam fell to fast medium bowler Neil Wagner for 9 making it 80/6.

Captain Rizwan and bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, 26, then steadied the innings adding 107 runs for the 7th wicket. Rizwan was run out for 71 and it was 187/7.  Spinner Yasir Shah fell to Boult for 4 making it 196/8. Fast bowler Shaeen Afridi fell to Wagner for 6 making it 235/9. Faheem Ashraf fell to Jamieson for 91 and Pakistan were all out for 239 and it was stumps..

For NZ, Kyle Jamieson took 3/35 while Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Neil Wagner took 2 wickets each.
