Pakistan 153/3 in 2nd innings in 3rd test against SA, need to score 228 runs

Patna : Set a target of 381, Pakistan were 153/3 in their second innings at stumps on day 3 in the third and final test against South Africa (SA) at The Wanderers, Johannesburg, South Africa, on January 13, 2019, with Asad Shafiq batting on 48 in 47 balls with 8 fours and Babar Azam batting on 17 in 21 balls with 4 fours.

Shafiq and Azam have so far added 49 runs for the 4th wicket. Opener Imam-ul-Haq fell to Dale Steyn for 35. His opening partner Shan Masood also fell to Steny for 37. Haq and Masood added 67 runs for the first wicket, the first fifty plus opening stand in the series. Azhar Ali fell to Duanne Olivier for 15.

Pakistan need to score another 228 runs with 7 wickets in hand to win the third test. South Africa are leading the 3-match test series 2-0 having won the first two tests.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 135/5, South Africa were all out for 303 in 80.3 overs in their second innings riding on wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock’s 129 in 138 balls with 18 fours and a six, his 4th test century, and Hashim Amla’s 71 in 144 balls with 14 fours.

Quinton de Kock has scored a test century after a gap of nearly two years. Amla and de Kock added 102 runs for the 6th wicket. de Kock added 79 runs with Rabada for the 8th wicket. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada scored 21 in 62 balls with 3 fours while Vernon Philander made 14 with 3 fours.

For Pakistan, fast bowler Faheem Ashraf and spinner Shadab Khan took three wickets each while Mohammad Amir took two wickets. Fast bowlers Mohammad Abbas and Hasan Ali took one wicket each.

South Africa had scored 262 runs in their first innings. Pakistan were all out for 185 in their first innings.
