Patna : World No 1 in WTA rankings Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, World No 4 Kiki Bertens, 27, Netherlands, and World No 19 Garbine Muguruza, 25, Spain, a former French Open (2016) and Wimbledon ( 2017) Champion, entered the third round of Italian Open winning their respective second  rojund matches at Foro Italico, Rome, Italy, on May 16, 2019.

Osaka beat World No 33 Dominika Cibulkova, 30, Slovakia, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the 2nd round. Osaka fired 13 Acdes in the match to none by Cibulkova. Osaka broke Cibulkova’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke her service only once. Osaka won 5 games in a row to 2 by Cibulkova.

Muruguza beat World No 30 Danielle Rose Collins, 25, USA, in three -sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the second round. Muguruza broke Collin’ serve 7 times in the match while the latter broke her service 5 times. Muguruza served 4 Aces in the match to 3 by Collins. Muguzua won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by Collins.

Bertens, who won the Madrid Open singles title last week, beat World No 54 Amanda Anisimova, 17, USA, in a threepset thriller 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in the 2nd round. Bertens hammered 12 Aces in the match to none by Amanda. Bertens broke Amanda’s service 8 times in the match while the latter broke her service 6 times. Bertens won 6 games in a row during the match to 4 by Amanda.
