Ara :  One person was shot dead and another injured at Pachrukhia Sand Ghat under Koelwar police station (PS) in Bhojpur District in South Bihar on June 29, 2021, morning, by some persons for protesting digging of sand from the field.

Police brought the body over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem while the injured has been admitted to a private Nursing Home at Chhapara. The deceased was identified as Vijyendra Rai, 42, son of late Jawahar Rai of Rajapur-Pachrukhia village under Koelwar PS while the injured has been identified as Guddu Rai of the same village. An FIR has been lodged with Koelwar police station in this regard. Police are investigating the matter and have arrested one of the miscreants.

SHO, Koelwar PS, Kuer Kumar Gupta, said that the incident took place at Pachrukhia Sand Ghat but the reason behind it is still to be ascertained. But, Ravi Kumar, nephew of the deceased, said that his uncle Vijyendra Rai had gone to his field for grazing buffalos in his field on the outskirt of village Semaria under Koelwar PS where he saw some armed miscreants digging sand from his field. When he objected to it, the miscreants shot at him and escaped. He was rushed to Ara Sadar Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.

Bhojpur SP Rakesh Kumar Dubey said that the brother of the deceased has named some persons in this connection and police arrested one of them.
