Ara : One person was killed and five others including a woman were injured in an exchange of firing between two groups in a land dispute at village Surungapur under Sandesh police station in Bhojpur District on May 1, 2020. Police brought the body over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem and admitted the injured there.

Old land dispute is said to be the cause behind the incident. A named FIR has been lodged with Sandesh police station in this connection and police are investigating into the incident. Police arrested three named miscreants immediately along with pistol when they were trying to flee from the village after the incident.

The deceased was identified as Sanjay Singh, 40, while the injured were identified as Vishnu Bhagwan Singh, his wife Kanti Devi, 60, his sons Sonu Singh and Tinku Singh, Chhatrabali Singh, Karanveer Singh,35, son of Baleshwar Singh of Surungapur village under Sandesh police station. The deceased was junior executive in JIO company at Ara.

Bhojpur SP Sushil Kumar said that there a long standing enmity between the two groups at Surungapur village under Sandesh police station over 17 bighas of land. The matter was decided by the court and the decision went in favour of the injured persons. He further said that members of a group were going to plough their field on May 1, 2020, when members of another group reached and picked up a started quarrel and within second members of both groups embroiled in scuffle with used traditional weapons to attack each other. Meanwhile, some persons of a group started firing in which one person Sanjay Singh was killed on the spot while five persons including one woman were injured.
