Patna : Reigning Olympic Champion and three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, and 2017 World Champion Nozomi Okuhara, 24, Japan, entered the semi-finals of Dania Denmark Open, an HSBC BWF Would Tour Super 750 event, at Odense, Denmark, on October 18, 2019.

World No 23 Carolina Marin edged past World No 19 AN SE Young, 17, South Korea, in a three-game thriller 18-21, 21-19, 21-18 in 79 minutes battling back from one game down in quarter-finals at Odense Sportspark, Denmark, on October 18.

Marin, who had won World Championships title in 2014, 2015 and 2018, won 60 rallies in the match to 58 by Young, who had stunned reigning World Champion P V Sindhu, 24, India, in 2nd round on October 17, 2019. Both the players won 5 consecutive points each in the match. This was first meeting between the two players.

World No 4 Okuhara beat World No 14 Beiwen Zhang, 29, USA, in straight games 21-17, 21-8 in 31 minutes in quarter-finals. Third seed Okuhara won 42 rallies in the match to 25 by Zhang. She won 6 consecutive points in the match to 3 by the Chinese. Okuhara now leads Zhang 6-0 Head to Head.
