Patna : World No 8 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings and World Champion Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, the 4th seed, on July 15, 2018, beat World No 3 and 2nd seed P V Sindhu, 23, India, to lift women’s singles title at Thailand Open, a BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament. Okuhara beat Sindhu 21-15, 21-18 in the final at Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok.

Okuhara had also defeated Sindhu in World Championship final in 2017. It was Okuhara’s first World Tour title in 2018 and she now leads Sindhu 6-5 head to head. She is very fast on the court. Sindhu’s patchy form continues.

World No 33 Kanta Tsuneyama, Japan, won the men’s singles title beating World No 15 Tommy Sugiarto, Indonesia, in the three sets 21-16, 13-21, 21-9 in the final.
