Patna : Resuming at their overnight score of 116/3, New Zealand (NZ) were all out for 482 runs in 117.5 overs in their first innings in 1st test against South Africa (SA) at Hagley Oveval, Christchurch, NZ, on Day 2 of the match on February 18, 2022, as Henry Nicholls,30, scored 105 in 163 balls hitting 11 fours, his 8th test ton, while Tom Blundell (wk) scored 96 runs in 138 balls hitting 12 fours. NZ had won the toss and opted to bowl and bundled out SA for only 95 runs in their first innings on Day 1.
Tom Blundell and fast medium bowler Matt Henry added 94 runs for the 10th wicket. Henry, who had taken 7/23 in SA’s first innings, remained unbeaten on 58 in 68 balls with 8 fours. Blundell and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, 35, added 76 runs for 7th wicket. Gramndhomme fell to part-time spinner Aiden Markram for 45 in 42 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Fast medium bowler Neil Wagner, 35, fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for 49 in 56 balls hittin 7 fours and 2 sixes. Wagner and Henry Nicholls added 80 runs for 4th wicket.
SA were 34/3 after 9 overs at stumps on Day 2 losing their first wicket that of opener Sarel Ervee (0) without any run on the board. Ervee fell to Tim Southee. Captain Dean Elgar ( opener) fell to fast medium bowler Matt Hrenry for zero making it 2/2 after 3.3 overs. Aiden Markram fell to fast medium bowler Southee for 2 and it was 4/3 after 4.1 overs. At stumps on Day 2, Rassie van der Dussen was batting on 9 while Temba Bavuma was unbeaten on 22 adding 30 runs for the wicket. South Africa trail by 353 runs.
