Patna : New Zealand (NZ) scored 164/6 in 20 overs against India in 1st T20I at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Rajsthan, on November 17, 2021, night, as opener Martin Guptill scored 70 runs in 42 balls hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes, two off Mohd Siraj and 1 each of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar, while Mark Chapman scored 63 in 50 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. India won the toss and opted to bowl.
It was Guptill’s first T20I fifty against India. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2/24 in 4 overs while spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 2/23 in 4 overs. India won the toss and opted to bowl.
Batting first, NZ could score only 65/1 runs in first ten overs but added another 99 runs in the next ten overs as pacer Mohd Siraj conceded 16 runs in 11th over and spinner Axar patel conceded 15 runs in the 12th over. Siraj then leaked 13 runs in 15th over while Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 14 runs in 17th ovder. India, however, conceded just 12 runs in last two overs.
NZ had lost their first wicket that of Daryl Mitchell with just 1 run on the board but recovered well to score 164/6 in 20 overs. Sirjal fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar while Guptill fell to medium fast bowler Deepak Chahar.. Mark Chapman fell to Ashwin. Glenn Phillips also fell to Ashwin.
