Patna : New Zealand (NZ) beat India by 7 wickets in the 2nd test at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on the 3rd day of the match on March 2, 2020, drubbing the visitors 2-0 in the two-match series. NZ fast bowler Kyle Jamieson was declared Player of The Match while fast bowler Tim Southee was declared Player of The Series for taking 14 wickets in two-tests including 5 in the 2nd test. NZ had earlier won the three-match ODI series 3-0 though they had suffered a 5-0 whitewash in five-match T20I series.

India, who had scored 242 runs in the first innings, were all out for 124 runs in their 2nd innings in the first session of the play on March 2 with fast bowler Trent Boult taking 4/28 in 14 overs and Tim Southee taking 3/36 in 11 overs. NZ, who had scored 235 in their first innings, scored 132/3 in 36 overs to win the match and the series.

NZ openers Tol Latham and Tom Blundell scored 52 and 55 runs respectively adding 103 runs for the first wicket. Captain Kane Williamson fell to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for 5. Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls remained unbeaten on 5 runs each. Bumrah took 2/39 in 13 overs while Umesh Yadav took 1/45 in 14 overs. Bumrah took 5 wickets in 2nd test.

Captain Virat Kohli admitted that as a test team the Indians were not able to play the kind of cricket they wanted to. He also admitted that he was not getting runs himself. NZ bowlers created a lot of pressure hardly providing any opportunities to the Indian batsmen. NZ bowlers’s outstanding consistency forced us to commit mistakes, Kohli said.
