Patna : New Zealand (NZ) beat Bangladesh by an innings and 52 in the 1st test at Seddon Park, Hamilton, New Zealand, on the 4th day of the match on March 3, 2019, even as two Bangladesh batsmen : Soumya Sarkar ( 149) and captain Mahmudullah (146), hit centuries in the second innings. New Zealand have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match test series.
Trailing by 481 runs on first innings, Bangladesh were all out for 429 in 103 overs in their second innings. For New Zealand, fast bowler Trent Boult took 5/123 while Tim Southee took 3/98. Neil Wagner took 2/104. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was named Player of the match
Resuming at their overnight score of 174/4, Bangladesh added 255 runs to their score getting all out for 429. Souma Sarkar and Mahmudullah added 235 runs for the 5th wicket. Sarkar fell to Boult for 149 in 171 balls with 21 fours and 5 sixes. Mahmudullah fell to Southee for 146 in 229 balls with 21 fours and 3 sixes. Bangladesh had scored 234 in their first innings with opener Tamim Iqbal scoring 126.
New Zealand had declared their 1st innings at 715/6 with openers Jeet Raval and Tom Latham scoring 132 and 161 runs respectively and captain Kane Williamson scoring an unbeaten 200.
