Patna : New Zealand (NZ) defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets in te 2nd ODI at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, New Zealand, on February 16, 2019, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing a target of 227, New Zealand scored 229/2 in 36.1 overs with opener Martin Guptil, 32, scoring 118 in 88 balls with 14 fours and 4 sixes, his 16th ODI ton, and captain Kane Williamson scoring an unbeaten 65 in 86 balls with 3 fours. Ross Taylor remained not out on 21 in 20 balls with 3 fours. Opener Henry Nicholls fell to Mustafizur Rahman for 14.
New Zealand won the toss but opted to bowl. Batting first, Bangaladesh were all out for 226 in 49.4 overs with Mohammad Mithun scoring 57 in 69 balls with 7 fours and a six and Shabbir Rahman scoring 43 in 65 balls with 7 fours. Bangladesh were 93/5 after 20.5 overs.
For New Zealand, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson took 3/43 while spinner Todd Astle took 2/52. James Neesham took 2/21. Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, and Matt Henry took one wicket each. New Zealand had also won the the first ODI by 8 wickets.
