Patna : New Zealand (NZ) scored 249 runs in 99.2 overs in their first innings at tea on Day 5 in the WTC final against India at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, UK, on June 22, 2021, with fast bowler Mohd Shami taking 4/76 and fellow fast bowler Ishant Sharma taking 3/48. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 2/28 while Ravindra Jadeja took 1/20. NZ lead by 32 runs asĀ  India had scored 217 runs in their first innings.

For NZ, captain Kane Williamson scored 49 in 177 balls with 6 fours in a dogged innings while medium fast bowler Tim Southee scored 30 runs in 46 balls hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. Southee hit Ishant Sharma and Jadeja for a six each. He alsomhi Ishant for a four. Kyle Jamieson also scored 21 runs. NZ were 135/5 at one stage but Williamson played the role an anchor to perfection.
