Patna : Chasing a target of 284 runs, New Zealand (NZ) were struggling at 4/1 after 4 overs at stumps on Day 4 in their 2nd innings in 1st test against India at grren Park, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 28, 2021. Opener Will Young, who had scored 89 runs in first innings, fell to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 2 runs in 2nd innings.

India declared their second innings at 234/7 in 81 overs in the third session of play on Day 4 in the 1st test against New Zealand (NZ) at Green Park, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 28, 2021, with Shreyas Iyer scoring 65 runs in 125 balls hitting 8 fours and 1 six and Wriddhiman Saha (wk) scoring an unbeaten 61 in 126 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Spinner Axar Patel remained unbeaten on 28 in 67 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. NZ required to score 284 runs to win the 1st test. India had scored 345 runs in their 1st innings while NZ had scored 296 runs in first innings.

Saha and Patel added 67 runs their unbroken 67 partnership for the 8th wicket. It was Saha’s first fifty plus innings in 11 test. NZ were on top after reducing India to 51/5 in 19.4 over in their 2nd innings but wasted the advantage as spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer added 52 runs for the 6th wicket. Ashwin fell Kyle Jamieson for 32. Iyer and Saha then added 67 runs for the 7th wicket. Iyer fell to Tim Southee. Debutant Iyer scored 105 and 65 runs in this test.

Cheteshwar Pujara fell to Kyle Jamieson for 22 runs in 33 balls making it 32/2 while captain Ajinkya Rahane fell to spinner Ajaz Patel for 4 making it 41/3. Opener Mayank Agarwal fell to fast medium bowler Tim Southee for 17 and it was 51/4. At the same score, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja fell to Southee for zero making it 51/5. Ashwin fell Kyle Jamieson for 32.
