Patna : New Zealand (NZ) were 229/3 in 76.3 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 2 in the 2nd test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK, on June 11, 2021, with Ross Taylor unbeaten on 46 in 97 balls hitting 6 fours. Opener Devon Conway, who had scored double century in first test, scored 80 runs in 143 balls with 12 fours while Will Young scored 82 in 204 balls hitting 11 fours.

Conway and Young added 122 runs for the 2nd wicket. Conway fell to fast bowler Stuart Broad while Young fell to part time spinner Daniel Lawrence on the last ball of Day 2. Young and Taylor added 92 runs for the 3rd wicket. NZ made a disastrous start losing their first wicket that of opener Tom Latham ( captain) with only 15 runs on baord. Latham fell to Stuard Broad for 6.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 257/7, England were all out for 303 in 101 over in the first session of play on Day 2 with Daniel Lawrence scoring an unbeaten 81 in 124 balls hitting 13 fours while fast bowler Mark Wood scored 41 runs in 80 balls with 7 fours. Lawrence and Wood added 66 runs for the 8th wicket. Trent Boult took 4/85 while fast medium bowler Matt Henry took 3/78.
