Patna : New Zealand (NZ) were 129/0 in 57 overs in their first innings in 1st Test against India at stumps on Day 2 at Green Park, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as openers Will Young and Tom Latham added 129 runs in their unbroken partnership for the first wicket. Bill Young was unbeaten on 75 in 180 balls with 12 fours while Tom Latham was 50 not out in 165 balls hitting 4 fours. India had won the toss and opted to bat.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 258/4, India were all out for 345 runs in 111.1 overs with debutant Shreyas Iyer scoring 105 in 171 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes while spinner Ravichandra Ashwin scored 38 runs. India lost their 5th wicket when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja fell to fast medium bowler Tim Southee for 50 runs in 112 balls with 6 fours making it 266/5. Wriddhiman Saha (wk) also fell to Southee for 1 making it 288/6.

Iyer too fell to Southee for 105 and it was 305/7. Spinner Axar patel fell to Southee for 3 making it 313/8.  Ravichandran Ashwin fell to spinner Ajajaz Patel for 38 in 56 balls with 5 fours and it was 339/9. Ashwin and Umesh Yadav added 26 runs for the 9th wicket. Umesh remained unbeaten on 10 in 34 balls hitting 1 six.

For NZ, Tim Southee took 5/69 in 27.4 overs while fast bowler Kyle Jamieson took 3/91 in 23.2 overs. Spinner Ajaz patel took 2/90 in 29.1 overs.
