Gaya : CM Nitish Kumar on January 7, 2018, called on Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama at Bodh Gaya, 16 km away from Gaya Town, and also released a book with him. Nitish said he feels delighted whenever the Dalai Lama visits Bodh Gaya.

The Dalai Lama, who has been staying at Bodh Gaya since January 2, 2018, received the Chief Minister at the Kalachakra Maidan and presented him with a picture of the Buddha and an “Angavastram” (traditional mens attire) as tokens of blessing. Later, they jointly released “Science and Philosophy in the Indian Buddhist Classics” – the first part of a multi-volume edition. ” I am hopeful that this new book will serve as an inspiration for promoting peace in the world,” Nitish said.

The Bihar Chief Minister lauded the spiritual leader for introducing Indian youth to the Buddhas scientific thoughts and said it is a matter of pride for every Bihar resident that they belong to the land where the Buddha had attained enlightenment.

Later, Nitish visited the Maha Bodhi temple, built at the very spot where the Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment, and inaugurated a newly-constructed boundarywall of the complex. He also prayed at the temple and the Bodhi tree. The CM asked the Maha Bodhi Temple Management Committee to take steps for beautification of the surrounding area.
