Patna : Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, who sent former JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav and party general secretary K C Tyagi to attend the meeting of opposition parties hosted by AICC president Sonia Gandhi to discuss their candidate for the post of President on May 26, 2017, is likely to be present at the lunch PM Narendra Modi is hosting on May 27 for visiting Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth.

Nitish Kumar was conspicuous by his absence at the meeting of opposition parties on May 26. There has been speculation about a tie-up between JD(U) and BJP although Nitish has repeatedly refuted it. The speculation followed the Supreme Court’s recent order for trial of RJD chief Lalu Prasad and others in few more fodder scam cases and IT summons to Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharti, MP, and her husband Shailesh Kumar in connection with their alleged land deals in Delhi. Nitish has remained silent on the allegations against the RJD chief and his kin.

It may be recalled here that the JD(U) had snapped its 17-year alliance with BJP in 2013 after Narendra Modi was declared the saffron party’s prime ministerial candidate.
