Patna :  Bihar CM Nitish Kumar while expressing concern over the sudden resignation by Chancellor of Nalanda University (NU) George Yoe Boon said the resignations by those who had been associated with the university since its inception was causing concern and leading to uncertainty.
Reacting to the resignation of the NU Chancellor, who is also a former foreign minister of Singapore, Nitish said, “An atmosphere of
uncertainty has been created. If all old associates start leaving the university, the very core idea of Nalanda would be affected.” He
praised the contributions of Boon and his predecessor Amartya Sen .
Earlier in the day the NU Chancellor submitted his papers to Presiden Pranabh Mukherjee who is also Visitor of the University. Boon had on November 10 had promised vice -chancellor Gopa Sabharwal would be allowed to continue till her successor was appointed. However, her extension was terminated by Visitor as her service extension order was not confirmed by the 14-member governing
body. The Visitor did not ratify Chancellor’s order.  Pankaj Mohan, Dean of school of historical studies, took over as interim
VC from Sabharwal who was working as VC since establishment of the university.The CM was in Rajgir on Friday to inaugurate the Rajgir festival.

Nalanda University has been set up at Rajgir close to the ruins of the ancient Nalanda University.
