Nishioka stuns Goffin in 2nd round of ATP City Open

Patna : Canadian teenage sensation Felix Auger Aliassime, World No 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, Greece,  World No 20 Milos Raonic, Canada, and World No 52 Nick Kyrgios, Australia, entered the Round of 16 at City Open, Washington, USA, an ATP 500 points event, on August 1, 2019. But, World No 18 David Goffin, Belgium, crashed out of the tournament losing to World No 77 Yoshihito Nishioka, Japan, in the second round.

World No 22 Aliassime, 18, beat World No 43 Reilly Opelka, 21, USA,  6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round. Opelka though hammered 22 Aces in the match to 12 by Aliassime, who committed 6 double faults. Aliassime won 2 break points to 1 by Opelka. Aliassime’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 88 % & 75%) was much better than that of Opelka ( 80 % & 55 %). Aliassime will square up against World No 17 Marin Cilic, Croatia, in Round of 16.

Top seed Tsitsipas, 20, beat World No 128 Tommy Paul, 22, USA, 6-3, 7-5 in 85 minutes in second round. Tsitsipas won 3 break points to 1 by Paul. He fired 7 Aces in the match to 4 by the American. Tsitsipas also won 4 games in a row to 2 by Paul.

Kyrgios beat 11th seed Giles Simon, 34, France, the World No 33, 6-4, 7-6 in the second round. Kyrgios hammered 24 Aces in the match to just 3 by Simon. The Australian, however, also committed 7 double faults to 2 by Simon. He won 2 break points while Simon won one break points.

World No 20 Raonic beat World No 281 Tim Smyczek, 31, USA, 6-1, 6-4 in the second round. Raonic hammered 16 Aces in the match to 2 by Smyczek. The Canadian won 4 break points to 1 by the American. Raonic also won 5 games in a row to 2 by Smyczek.

World No 77 Nishioka stunned World No 18 Goffin in a three-set thriller 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 in second round. Nishioka won 6 break points to 4 by Goffin. Nishioka won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Goffin. Goffin fired 8 Aces in the match to 3 by Nishioka. He will face Kyrgios in Round of 16.
