Patna : World Number 36 in ATP rankings Kei Nishikori, 28, Japan, defeated World Number 3 Marin Cilic, 29, Croatia, to enter the semi-finals of Monte Carlo ATP Masters 1000 tournament. Nishikori defeated Cilic in a three-set thriller 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, in a massive upset in the quarterfinals.

Cilic, a former US Open winner, had reached singles final of Australian Open in 2018 and Wimbledon final in 2017. Nishikori, a former top ten player, has returned to the circuit after an injury break. Top seed and World Number 1 Rafael Nadal and World Number Grigor Dimitrov have already entered the semifinals of the tournament. The fourth quarterfinals between World Number 4 Alexander Zverev, and  World Number 34 Richard Gasquet, 31, France, is underway.  Gasquet was leading 5-3 in the first set.
