Patna : World No 12 and two time champion Kei Nishikori, 28, Japan, will clash with World No 32 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, in the men’s singles final of Japan Open tennis championship, an ATP World Tour 500 points event, at Tokyo on October 7, 2018.

Third seed Nishikori beat World No 25 and 8th seed Richard Gasquet, 32, France, 7-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals on October 6, 2018. Nishikori served 10 Aces in the match to 7 by Gasquet, who also committed 2 double faults. Nishikori’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was better than that of Gasquet. Nishikori also won 3 break points. He also won 5 games in a row in the match.

Medvedev beat World No 31 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, 6-3, 6-3 in the other semi-finals. Both the players were unseeded in the tournament. Medvedev fired 12 Aces in the match to 4 by Shapovalov. He also won 3 break points.
