Buxar : Prohibition & Excise Department Department sleuths, with the help of Buxar police, on September 9, 2020, arrested nine liquor smugglers including seven women along with large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and also seized an autorickshaw when they were smuggling the liquor from Uttar Pradesh into Bihar to supply the same to different districts of the state including Bhojpur.
Liquor mafias have adopted several novel ways to deliver liquor in Bihar especially after ban on sale and purchase of liquor in the State in 2016. They have employed young girls and women in large numbers for the purpose. The women gangs carry IMFL in carry bags and deliver the same at home on demands. Though the Prohibition & Excise department were aware of it but never succeeded in arresting a single woman liquor smuggler.
On September 9, 2020, the officials of Prohibition & Department at Buxar got information that a gang of liquor smugglers is smuggling IMFL from Uttar Pradesh to be delivered at Ara, headquarters of Bhojpur District in South Bihar. They laid a trap and arrested seven women and two male liquor smugglers as they entered Buxar district crossing the border from Uttar Pradesh. The officials also seized the autorickshaw they were travelling by.
The arrested woman liquor smugglers said that over a dozen women were in their gang and they worked for the liquor mafias of Uttar Pradesh. They smuggled IMFL and home delivered the same in Buxar and Bhojpur in Bihar in small carry bags and lady purses.
An ASI of Prohibition & Excise Department, Buxar, said that this gang carried IMFL in small carry bags and lady purses so that no one could suspect them. He said that a named FIR has been lodged with police in this connection and police sent the arrested liquor smugglers to jail after interrogation.
