New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will be holding a three day ‘ Camp Sitting and  Open Hearing’ for the cases of human rights violations and related grievances of the people of Uttar Pradesh at Yojana Bhawan, Near Secretariat, Lucknow from August 9 to August 11, 2017.

In addition to the fresh complaints received in response to the public notices, the Commission has also decided to take up some of the cases of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes victims already under consideration during the open hearing.

The NHRC will take up 255 cases during its ‘Camp Sitting and Open Hearing’, which will begin with the inauguration by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, Member, NHRC, on August 9, 2017 at 10 am.  After the inauguration, the Commission will take up 171 cases to be heard by its Members Justice  Pinaki Chandra Ghose, Justice D Murugesan, S C Sinha and Jyotika Kalra, according to an NHRC release.

The matters relating to atrocities on scheduled castes, improper implementation of welfare schemes of Central and State Government for Scheduled Castes, non-registration of FIR, grabbing of land of Scheduled Castes by upper class people, non-issue of caste certificates etc will come for hearing before the four benche. Complainants as well as the concerned authorities have been asked to remain present at the time of hearing of the cases.

On the second day of the Camp Sitting/Open Hearing, 17 important cases shall be taken up in the sitting of Full Commission. These include cases of large number of deaths of prisoners in the jails of Uttar Pradesh, denial of admission to mentally ill patients from Uttarakhand in Bareilly Mental Hospital, missing children, electrocution etc, according to the NHRC release.
