New Delhi : The month long Winter Internship Programme of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, which began on December 20, 2018, concluded in New Delhi on January 18, 2019. Fifty-two selected students of different colleges and universities from various parts of the country participated in the programme and were given the certificates on successful completion of internship. They included 32 girls and 20 boys.

Three students Debanjana Bhattacharjee, Mebanjop Sun, and Anjali Devi got cash prizes of Rs 6,000, Rs 5,000, and Rs 4,000 respectively as the best interns.

Addressing the valedictory function, Justice P C Ghose, Member, NHRC, congratulated the interns on the successful completion of their internship and expressed hope that they would make the best use of their exposure on various aspects of human rights. He said that the interns should remain very positive in life and adhere to the principles of 3Ds i.e. discipline, devotion, and direction to achieve success. Justice Ghose also decided to award a cash prize of Rs 6,000 to Nihal Kaur for her very innovative short film capturing the ideas of all the interns on human rights in their respective dialects and languages.

Jyotika Kalra, Member, NHRC, expressed hope that the interns would come out of the realm of gender stereotypes by contributing towards a society where gender based biases do not create impediments in realising the right to equality of all while achieving their goals. She also said that they should also strive to build awareness on improving the gender sex ratio.

Jaideep Govind, Secretary General, NHRC, said that interns are ambassadors of human rights. It would go a long way if they became practitioners of human rights. He said that the Commission is always open to the ideas of enriching the course contents and may introduce some new ideas to make it more useful and valuable, according to an NHRC release.
