New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) , under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, has the mandate to spread human rights literacy among various sections of society and promote awareness about the safeguards available for the protection of these rights through publications, seminars and workshops.

The Commission is organising a workshop in collaboration with National Law School of India University (NLSIU) , Bangalore, Karnataka on the ‘Role of Media in Promotion and Protection of Human Rights’ at National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Karnataka, on June 22, 2017. Justice H L Dattu, Chairperson, NHRC, will inaugurate the workshop, which will start at 10 am, according to an NHRC release.

The objective of the workshop is to bring on platform mediapersons, jurists, members of legal fraternity, academicians, students and other stakeholders to understand, appreciate and discuss the whole gamut of issues about the role and impact of media in promotion and protection of human rights and also the freedom of speech with focus on social media in the backdrop of concerns relating to human rights, according to the NHRC release.
