New Delhi : Justice H L Dattu, Chairperson, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, on December 31, 2018,   inaugurated the webcast service of the Commission with the re-launch of its Advanced video conferencing system, which will facilitate a dialogue with various stakeholders from different parts of the country.

The webcast will be an added feature to the all user friendly website of the Commission launched by PM Narendra Modi on the Foundation Day of the NHRC on October 12, 2018. This will help the NHRC to connect with the people through the live telecast of its various activities.

Addressing the gathering at a brief ceremony at NHRC’s headquarters in New Delhi, the NHRC Chairperson said that the Silver Jubilee is a milestone not only in the journey of the Commission but also a cause for celebration of human rights protection mechanism in the country. In this connection, the Commission organised a series of events and activities, primarily, aiming at involving people’s participation in the promotion and protection of human rights.

He said that Online Human Rights Pledge, Short Films on Human Rights Competition, Human Rights Street Theatre Festival, Walk for Human Rights, Painting, Slogan and Logo Designing competitions, Open Forum Discussions, Dialogue with media, besides various seminars, conferences, Open Hearings and Camp Sittings are some of the programmes of the NHRC to connect directly with the people. Integration of NHRC’s online complaint filing system with the Common Service Centres and starting of a Toll Free Number 14433 are the latest steps in line with the Commission’s various silver jubilee initiatives to expand its outreach, said Justice H L Dattu.

He said that in a country of about 1.3 billion people, the NHRC’s humble efforts to build awareness about human rights may not be sufficient but added that he was sure that with the support of civil society, legislature, judiciary, executive as well as media, the echo of the Commission’s efforts will be amplified for the betterment of society as a whole.
